HAGERMAN HS CAREER DAY
PRINCIPALS CORNER
Walking into Papa Kelsey’s to eat, I see the following sign, “Fall, it is nice to see you again”. Fall is definitely in the air. I think I recognize Fall coming in Hagerman more by how many flies are trying to be a part of my life. It is a spectacle to see these little creatures in survival mode. I also had to laugh when my veteran junior high teacher brought about 10 flyswatters to the school (no exaggeration).
Homecoming week was such a huge success this year. It came in part because of our awesome community and businesses. I’d like to thank Bean’s Twisted Sheers, Hagerman Auto, and Bullseye BBQ (provided food for our carnival), for going the extra mile to make our Homecoming week extra special for the town businesses. I also want to thank Hagerman Fire, EMT, and Paramedics, Lithia in Twin Falls, Mrs. Nelson (cool old car), Officer Cornett, and Sergeant Roc and the National Guard for contributing to our parade. Parents, thank you for taking the time to support our students. I recognize the effort and sacrifice that you make to help our students to put together floats and just be a part of the celebration. It means the world to our students, your children, the community, and our school. Last but not least, Hagerman JH/HS student body. Way to step up and get involved. School spirit is only as good as our students. Thank you for modeling pride in our school and yourselves. It matters.
As I watched our students rally around each other during Homecoming week I marveled at the moments our school showed a strong bond of unity. The students decorated the halls together, they complemented each other for either dressing up for royalty, or just dressing up in pirate colors. They smashed a car together, they decorated floats together, they sat for a whole school picture together, and they supported the sports programs together on Friday night.
I enjoyed watching our students put their differences aside, shelving their stresses, and being able to smile and enjoy what is happening around them, even just for a moment. Happiness is contagious and it is healthy for everyone. I probably smiled more on this Homecoming Week just watching our students enjoy the excitement and having fun with each other. The atmosphere and climate of Hagerman JH/SH was electric.
I said it before and I will say it again, “It takes a village to raise a child, and a community to raise a school”. We all want the best for our children so they can be successful. I am impressing that upon our community and parents to always remember that. I watched many of our parents and community members share appreciation and pride in the students this Homecoming Week. It was really fun.
In the words of one of the Hagerman HS Seniors, “This was the best Homecoming I have ever had”.
It matters.
