Daniel Knapp, M. Ed
Grew up in a family that loves to garden, hunt, fish, and are lifelong students of the outdoors. He has fond memories as a young boy following his parents as they walk through the woods speaking Latin identifying the scientific names of plants. He attended Washington State University and at first studied animal science but then switched to Agriculture Education after finding his passion in teaching and graduated in 1998. He lives in the Hagerman area with his wife Jessica and they have 5 kids in which they partner together in volunteering in the Hagerman community; coaching, leading 4-H, shooting sports, hunters ed, and teaching Sunday school.
He believes that students learn best when they are involved in real-world project-based learning. He has spent his career developing programs in which students take part in building, growing, cooking, processing, and communicating. Currently, students at Hagerman High School Academy of Agriculture and Food Science could find themselves; processing sausage, setting up science fair research projects, rehabilitating wildlife habitat, fabricating a trailer in the shop, growing and selling plants, or designing and cutting out CNC plasma machine projects.
He is a firm believer in FFA and students competing in Career Development Events. These events provide Hagerman students the opportunities to develop leadership and career exploration while competing against some of the brightest students in Idaho and the US.
In the last several years, Daniel Knapp has partnered with local chef Kirt Martin to develop a new model of agriculture education that partners with food science and processing. Currently, Hagerman High School Academy of Agriculture and Food Science students have a curriculum that blends the traditional production of agriculture with food science and processing. This addresses the needs of the burgeoning food processing industry in the Magic Valley.
